James Dodds, England’s foremost painter of historic vessels, is joined by Hannah Cunliffe, Director of National Historic Ships UK and others for a talk on art and the preservation of historic working boats.
In this years Cork Street exhibition at Messum's Fine Art Gallery, Dodds will be talking about his recent work. Once a shipwright, his paintings reveal both the material and anatomy of working boats, yet his work moves beyond the literal to evoke a vessels mystical and historical background. Joining Dodds will be Hannah Cunliffe from National Historic Ships UK, a government-funded independent organisation devoted to the conservation of historic vessels in the UK. Both Dodds and Cunliffe are committed to raising the profile and reversing neglect of this important part of British maritime heritage.
