Tall Ship moves to Riverside

11 May 2011

After 12 successful years and welcoming over half a million visitors at Yorkhill Quay, The Tall Ship, Glenlee moved to a new berth alongside the Riverside Museum on Thursday 5th May at 10.30am.  Both The Tall Ship and the museum will open to the public on Tuesday 21st June.

The Tall Ship has undergone a £1.5 million refurbishment project launched by the Clyde Maritime Trust which owns and operates the vessel, to upgrade the Glenlee in time for the reopening.  Anyone wishing to donate to The Tall Ship Appeal can still do so by contacting the ship on 0141 22 2513.

The Glenlee was towed to Pointhouse Quay using 3 tug boats provided by Clyde Marine Services, with Henry Abram and Sons managing the two and reberthing process and cranes provided by James Jack Lifting Services.

Dr Christopher Mason, Chairman of the Clyde Maritime Trust, said: "The Tall Ship will be moved to the new Pointhouse Quay on 5th May, so that the Glenlee can be exhibited permanently alongside the new Riverside Msueum.  The ship will be a perfect compliment both to Zaha Hadid's iconic building and the collections displayed inside it."
