Thames licenses

19 January 2012

New Thames licenses have been imposed for 2012, some details of which have already been published.

Licence fees are due to increase by 6.8% in 2012 but have been frozen for commercial operators until 2015.  There is also a 25% licence discount for electric boats, but unfortunately there are no concessionary rates for historic vessels unless they are under recognised charitable status.

The Environment Agency’s Boat Registration Team has confirmed that as of this year, registered charities will be able to claim a 60% discount on their registration fee for the River Thames.  If you provide your registered charity number then you will be eligible for this discount.

The new Thames license proposals were the result of consultation with a range of local and National user representative groups on a 3 year charging plan.
