HMS Gay Archer

18 July 2012

Restored 1950s Royal Navy Fast Patrol Boat HMS Gay Archer leaves her base at Watchet in North Somerset to visit Portsmouth this summer, where she was launched exactly 60 years ago.

Her programme will include visits to Padstow (29th  to 31st  July), Falmouth (2nd  August), Plymouth (3rd August), Dartmouth (4th & 5th  August), West Bay (6th7th  August)  and Poole (7th to 10th August), before berthing at the old Coastal Forces base at the Hornet Sailing Club at Gosport on arrival in Portsmouth harbour on the 10th.

The boat will be open to visitors as often as possible during the voyage and she will visit the old Vospers yard (now Trafalgar Wharf) at Portchester during her stay. It is expected she will take Second World War veterans for a visit to the Isle of White at some time and she will leave Portsmouth on 14th September having accepted an invitation to attend the Southampton Boat Show, where she will take part in the daily “Sail-past”.
