Royal visitor to attend our major event

6 September 2017

HRH The Princess Royal is to attend the annual awards ceremony for National Historic Ships UK. The awards take place on the first of November at the inspiring Trinity House in London.

National Historic Ships UK, a government funded, independent organisation, is the official voice for historic vessels in the United Kingdom. It offers advice to government, local authorities, funding bodies, and the historic ships sector on all matters relating to historic vessels in the UK.

For the past sevenyears NHS UK has staged a popular photography competition to capture the spirit of the UK’s maritime heritage. Past winners have gone on to become leading photographers in the marine industry.

The Princess Royal will have the opportunity to see some of the best entries in the 2017 categories.

A key part of the occasion will be the presentation of a series of awards recognising excellence and outstanding achievements in the conservation of historic vessels including the ‘Flagship of the Year’ award which will be presented to four regional vessels, acknowledging their outstanding programmes of public events and the Marsh Volunteer Award, recognising an outstanding volunteer, or group of volunteers, in the conservation or operation of historic vessels in the UK.

Dr Eric Kentley, Interim Director of National Historic Ships UK, said “I am delighted that HRH The Princess Royal is to attend our awards ceremony. The event is a great opportunity to share and reward the remarkable achievements of those working in the conservation of the UK’s historic vessels. It is also a chance to enjoy, and be inspired by, the wonderful images produced for our annual national photographic competition. Her Royal Highness has a wealth of knowledge, and experience, of our maritime heritage and I am sure her presence will make the ceremony one to remember.”
