Marsh Volunteer Award for Historic Vessel Conservation

For the second year running, National Historic Ships UK and the Marsh Christian Trust are presenting an award for a volunteer, or group of volunteers, who have made a significant contribution to the conservation or operation of historic vessels in the UK.  This exciting award is an opportunity to recognise and thank outstanding volunteer(s).

Entries will be judged by an expert panel and nominations should be submitted by application form between 8 May and 31 July 2012.  The overall prize of £1,000, donated by the Marsh Christian Trust, can be spent as the winner(s) chooses.

Young Volunteer of the Year Award

National Historic Ships UK and the Marsh Christian Trust are delighted to announce a new initiative to celebrate and recongise the role of young people in historic vessel conservation. Nominations for volunteers who are 25 and under are invited to apply for this new award, which carries a prize of £500 for the winner(s).

Both Awards will be presented at our prestigious national awards ceremony,  to be held in October 2012.

 Judging criteria

Applications will be judged against the following criteria for both awards:

  • Working on historic vessel conservation projects.
  • Developing traditional and conservation skills fro historic vessels.
  • Contributing to the operation and maintenance of historic vessels.

Who can enter?

  • Any individual or small group of people who worked on a voluntary basis in direct contact on an historic vessel, or conservation project, can be nominated.
  • The voluntary work  must have a focus on conservation, skills or vessel operation.
  • The award is presented to an individual or small group and not to a vessel or organisation.  Entries must focus specifically on the achievements of the volunteer(s).
  • Volunteers working for National Historic Ships UK may not apply.
  • Please note that volunteer (s) can only apply in one category.

 Please note the name of the nominator will be published as part of the process.

 All nominations will be published, along with the agreed shortlist.

How to enter

  • Complete the application form  for the over 25's,  and complete the application form  for those who are 25 and under, giving details of the  volunteer(s) and covering the following points:
  • A brief description of the voluntary work being entered
  • How the volunteer(s) has made a difference
  • Images of the work carried out must be supplied.

You may also attach one leaflet/piece of print about your organisation.
