History

WIGHT QUEEN was built as a passenger ferry by Camper & Nicholson, Gosport in 1908. She is of steel plate construction. Her first name was FERRY QUEEN and under this name she served in both World Wars. Her original engines were steam and she was converted to diesel on sale to the Solent Boating Company. By 1991 when acquired by her present owner the diesel engines had been removed. After a long history working as the Portsmouth to Gosport ferry from 1908 to 1956 she was sold to the Solent Boating Company and renamed WIGHT QUEEN. She now resides on the River Thames at Brentford as a houseboat.

This vessel is a survivor from the First World War. You can read more about her wartime history by visiting our First World War: Britain's Surviving Vessels website www.ww1britainssurvivingvessels.org.uk
