The Festival of Chatham Reach is a laid back family event where visitors can explore a range of river craft from Thames barges to steam tugs, in addition to a range of shore based events including live music, markets and activities.
Organised by our Shipshape Network South East project Tiller & Wheel CIC, The Festival of Chatham Reach is a celebration of the maritime influence on shaping this distinctive part of the Medway Towns.
Visitors will be able to take a river trip aboard Thames sailing barge Edith May, explore working steam tug Barking, and stand on the deck of authentic 1908 Whitstable oyster smack Thistle.
Shipwrights will demonstrate their skills on the shore side as the demonstrate how to build a clinker boat.
There will be a food court selling a range of local produce, games to take part in and a market selling a range of hand made and maritime inspired products.
This event is part of Heritage Open Days 2021.
