Medway Queen: An Astounding Invention
Location: ONLINE
In the age of sail, the notion of steam propulsion was a real step change in maritime design. Screw and paddle propulsion was used and although screw was more efficient paddlers were still being built after WWII. Medway Queen is a great example
This digital exhibition will outline the history and development of paddle propulsion for ships with Medway Queen as an example of what was achieved.
From the title page on the Medway Queen website, you can access a wealth of additional information on the ship's history (including her heroic part in the Dunkirk Evacuation), news of her rebuilding and find interesting snippets of information. There are activity pages, jigsaw puzzles, a virtual tour and much more. Click the link during the festival!
