NHS-UK Council of Experts member, John Megoran, attended the launch event at the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis on 12th June 2019.

The Director of the Academy, Tim Gedge, said a few words at the start followed by a response from the mayor of Lyme Regis after which the boats which have been built by the students were all launched.

They all looked tip top quality with different types including a couple of rowing boats, two sailing dinghies and a couple of speed boats.

Based on Monmouth Beach in Lyme Regis, the Boat Building Academy trains people of any age (over eighteen) to build, maintain and restore boats. The Academy's courses are all highly practical; a 38-week, full time Boat Building course which includes a City and Guilds Level 3 qualification, a 12 week, full-time Woodworking Skills course incorporating furniture design and making, and a programme of short courses, running from between two to five days which include Basic Woodworking, Wooden Boat Restoration, Traditional and Modern Wooden Boat Building, Sail Making, Rope Work and Renovation and Finishing courses.
