Lynher River Barge CIC is devoted to the restoration and maintenance of Tamar river barge Lynher to offer day sailing training and voyages along the Plymouth waterways, and can be hired as an event space. This funds her future as a community boat, used to teach young people about renewable energy and sustainability, outdoor classroom curriculum from history and geography to STEM subjects as well as practical sailing and traditional boat maintenance skills.

As a Shipshape South West Hub, the organisation offers a range of activities and services available to local historic vessel owners, skilled craftsmen, businesses, heritage organisations, training bodies and maritime enthusiasts.

Launching Lynher of Cremyll as the South West Hub

On 5th June, NHS-UK launched River Barge Lynher of Cremyll as one of the Hubs for the South West region of the Shipshape Network!

The virtual launch took place across the NHS-UK and Lynher of Cremyll social media channels. We heard about the conservation of Lynher, celebrated her 125th birthday and explored the range of maritime skills and training placements the team support, from traditional seafaring to museum ship-keeping skills.

The team even treated us to some live sea shanties! Listen back here:

Hannah Cunliffe, Director of National Historic Ships UK, said: 'The four new Shipshape hubs will act as our ambassadors on the ground, promoting our conservation principles and bringing together external maritime projects to form a local nucleus.  As we enter the second decade of the Shipshape Network, I'm excited to be working in partnership with these organisations to ensure we keep alive the traditional skills and infrastructure which our historic vessels rely on'.
