Community Liaison Assistant (Figureheads Project)

Salary (Grade 2): £9,684.48 per annum pro-rata (FTE salary £22,698)

Hours: 16 hours per week (work pattern to be agreed) – Fixed-term contract until 31 August 2025

Location: NMRN, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (with some travel to our Gosport sites) with the opportunity to adopt hybrid working (a combination of working onsite and from home)

The National Museum of the Royal Navy is recruiting to the new role of Community Liaison Assistant to join a project to help us tell the untold and sometimes difficult stories of our intriguing ships’ figureheads. Connecting the work of this project with diverse communities and the Royal Navy within Portsmouth, the UK, and the wider world, you will work as part of a team to develop community activity that will reveal this hidden history.

Key Opportunities

Working on and leading fun programming activities in the museum and in the community. 

• Working with striking ships’ figureheads which are works of art, in some cases several feet tall.

• Learning new museum collections management and research skills.

Knowledge/Experience

We are looking for someone who has experience of working or volunteering with diverse communities. Good at talking and writing to people and have an understanding of how to have conversations of a sometimes difficult and sensitive nature. Some experience of contributing to public events and/or community programmes and will enjoy learning new things and is willing to undertake relevant training.
