The Royal Yacht Britannia is an award-winning five-star visitor attraction and exclusive events venue in Edinburgh. The 190-strong team on board is committed to the same standards of excellence that were expected when Britannia was in service. This dedication to excellence has led to Britannia being rated as Scotland’s Best Visitor Attraction for 12 years running and one of TripAdvisor’s Top 5 UK Landmark Attractions.
Britannia’s Maintenance department, which consists of skilled engineers and qualified trade staff, oversees the preservation of this iconic vessel, our new Floating Hotel Fingal and a flotilla of small boats. They provide an essential and invaluable support role to all other departments.
The Maintenance team has a vacancy for an experienced small boat diesel engineer to maintain the engines on our small flotilla of motor boats, and classic 63ft sailing yacht. Engines include Foden FD6 Mk VI; Perkins T6.354(M); Volvo Penta (with stern drive); Scania DI12 59M and a JCB 444N2.
Specific knowledge of these engines is not vital, although a good general understanding of small and medium sized engines is required. Knowledge of 24V/12V and inverter electrical systems would also be advantageous but not essential, as would an interest in sailing. The job is full time, but could be part time with hours and days worked to suit the right candidate. Undertaking other maintenance tasks with the team, and general lifting and shifting in support of the other trading departments that effectively pay their wages.
The successful candidates must be physically fit, have a flexible can-do attitude, a good sense of humour, and be willing to carry out a variety of maintenance tasks as part of a small team.
The role involves working 40 hours per week over 4 days on a rota that includes some evenings and weekends. Company benefits include:
• Enhanced long service holiday entitlement
• Life Assurance
• Performance and loyalty payment scheme
• Complimentary tickets
• Staff discount in the Gift Shop, Royal Deck Tea Room and Fingal Hotel
• Free car parking for staff
