Scottish Maritime Museum - Gallery Attendant/Museum Reception

Place of Work: Irvine

Rate of Pay: £9.90 Living Wage

Funding requirements:    Person must be a North Ayrshire council resident, over the age of 25 & have been unemployed for more than 12 months.

Hours Required: 30 Hours (This will include weekend work) for 26 weeks

Normal Hours: To be confirmed

Responsible to:  V S Manager/Commercial Manager/Senior management team

Training: On the job training will be provided plus additional external training

Main Objective: To assist in the smooth operation of the public & visitor services delivering the highest possible standards in every aspect of the visitor experience.

Key Objective: 

• Opening of the Museum public areas as per the published timetable.
• Serving at all points of sale throughout the Museum including taking and accounting for admission income retail sales.
• Stock control of Museum merchandise.
• Checking and cleaning all public display areas, including toilets & external areas, to the highest possible standard.
• To undertake general Museum duties including the guiding of groups and visitors, preparation of display areas and the attendance & participation in special events.
• To be appropriately dressed in the uniform provided.
• To be fully aware of and comply with all of the Health & Safety procedures, including the fire drill.
• To ensure the security of the Museum’s collections.
• To undertake any reasonable request from your supervisor/line manager/member of management team and to undertake additional training as required.

Additional Notes:      

• The Museum is a visitor attraction and requires staff to work weekends, public holidays, and occasional evenings.
• The Museum strives to maintain very high standards and failure to comply with these standards may result in disciplinary action which could result in dismissal.
• Lunch breaks must be taken on the premises unless permission from your supervisor has been sought.
• The timing of lunch breaks will vary to accommodate the needs of those visiting the Museum and will be taken as directed by your supervisor/line manager.
• Uniforms provided will be shirts and a fleece. No trousers will be provided but those worn must be smart black or blue.  Jeans are not acceptable unless permission from your supervisor has been given.
