The TID164 Preservation Trust in Chatham, Kent, are looking for people to join their dedicated team of volunteers.
TID164 is one of the last surviving steam tugs of a class built during WW2 to assist the port operations after D Day at the Mulberry Harbour. Moored within Chatham Historic Dockyard she has been undergoing repairs and preservation over the last few years by a small team of volunteers.
The Trust are especially looking for people with an engineering background, welding or steam experience, but would welcome anyone who has a passion for history and would like to be involved. Due to insurance they can only accept people over 18 years of age.
Some people volunteer because they have a skill they want to use. Some because they like a challenge. Some because they like the camaraderie of meeting other people. Some because they fancy doing something different. But in all cases they volunteer to enjoy themselves and be part of a group trying to achieve something.
Please be aware that access to the tug is via a wall ladder and hatches, and may not be suitable for all.
