Following the Lights Exhibition

The Scottish Maritime Museum is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition Following the Lights opening to the public on Saturday 24th February until Saturday 17th August 2024.

Following the Lights explores the UK’s remarkable history of lighthouses and their keepers and engineers who made them possible. For centuries lighthouses were key to safety of mariners across the globe. Today, while they still protect mariners from the dangers of treacherous coastlines, modern technology has made many of these structures redundant and they now fall into disrepair or are converted to heritage monuments and even homes.

This touring exhibition, drawn from the private collection of lighthouse enthusiast and photographer Peter Gellatly, brings together a unique and rare collection of artefacts, letters, photography and memorabilia the remarkable history of lighthouses, their keepers and the engineers who made them possible. It has previously been featured at the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life, North Ayrshire Heritage Centre and the Garrison House in Millport.

The exhibition will be open at the Denny Ship Model Experiment Tank from Saturday 24th February until Saturday 17th August 2024.
