History

PINE was built in 1935 by Charles Hill & Son of Bristol. She was one of 8 all welded iron motor boats built for the Severn & Canal Carrying Co. PINE was originally of composite construction, iron sides and an elm bottom. The original engine was a 9HP Petter S Type. In 1981, PINE was fitted with an Armstrong Siddeley AS2. PINE's engine room is unusually located behind the accommodation. The engine is placed tight into the swim and the steerer stands above the engine on the back step. PINE worked for SCCCo from 1935 until nationalisation in 1949 when she became part of the British Transport Commissions fleet. Later PINE became a British Waterways maintenance boat and was fitted with a pilling rig. Passing into private ownership in the early 1980's, PINE now has a steel base plate and a cabin extension.
