History

JUNE was built  in 1868 by Goole Shipping and Repairing Ltd,  as one of the fleet of the first iron riveted up river keels. Designed to be moved by horse, sail and steam tow, she spent most of her working life on the Aire and Calder. She was found sunk in Preston Brook, Cheshire, in the late 1960s and restored by the famous wrought iron worker Chris Topp to working condition. She was fitted with diesel propulsion and a rebuilt swim and operated as an independent cargo vessel carrying sand and gravel/general river cargo. She was retired from service in the early 1980s as the oldest working vessel in the UK.

She was subsequently converted to a sail training vessel for underprivileged children on the Humber in the 1980s and used by the Ethel Trust (which still offer sailing experiences to young people today). She lost her mast in a storm and was returned to powered propulsion.  She is currently moored in East London and is one of the few (possibly five) examples of this type of historic craft still afloat.
