OWAISSA (Motor yacht, 1934)
https://www.nationalhistoricships.org.uk/register/2253/owaissa

Built by Staniland & Co at Thorne on the Stainforth and Keadby canal, this lovely motor cruiser is of carvel construction with iron keel and pitch planking on oak frames.  The superstructure is teak with mahogany internal joinery.

Her history is currently unknown except that she was fitted originally with a Hyland petrol engine that has since been replaced with twin Thornycroft diesels.  She was built with a ketch rig, but her main mast was taken off at some stage and lost.

Owaissa has had 17 owners and has been based on the Thames, Severn, Hull and the Norfolk Broads.  Since being bought by her present owner in 2008 she has been based on the River Weaver in Cheshire.

Accommodation consists of 4 berths in 2 cabins.  Gallery with full facilities. Bathroom with shower and basin with hot and cold water, macerator toilet. Central heating.  Shoreline/ inverter 240v electric system 24v domestic/ 12v instruments. Extended cruising range with secondary diesel tanks 90 gallons capacity. Twin Thornycroft 42hp engines.  Dual steering positions.

The boat is being sold by the son and daughter of the late owner, who has sadly passed away.  It is currently on hard standing still in Northwich and they that it does need some work, but is concerned that the longer it's left, the more attention it will need.

From the owners:

"The base of the boat was sanded fully and repainted around four to five years ago, however the boat yard owner rushed my bereaved dad into putting it back into the water without a second coat which has lead to its quick demise.  The boat is currently not watertight due to holes in the hull from wear and tear.  This is repairable, but would need restoration. Several of the lower planks need replacing and the owners feel that the restoration would cost £10-£20k max.  The topside just needs the old flaked varnish sandblasting off to make good and wouldn't need a vast amount of work.  Anyone is welcome to view the boat, and the yard where Owaissa is currently stored will kindly allow repair/ restoration in situ if required. This is a really lovely boat with original features throughout - originally advertised by Stanilands as a 'gentleman's motor cruiser'."

Price: NOW REDUCED to £7,000 - the owners are open to offers.
