Andrew is Executive Director of Museum Operations at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth. In 2021, he was awarded the Victory Medal by The Society for Nautical Research for his conservation work on HMS Victory.
The Council of Experts comprises up to 12 experienced individuals drawn from across the historic ships and heritage sectors who have demonstrated exceptional conservation, technical, business management, governance or strategic planning skills. Members are appointed by a Nominations Panel and advise on key issues affecting National Historic Ships UK and the constituencies that it serves.

Stephen Beresford
Stephen is a chartered engineer, maritime heritage consultant and boat conservator with more than 20 years experience in manufacturing industries. Since 2015, he has managed all aspects of vessel conservation and restoration for Windermere Jetty Museum.
Michael Carter
Michael is a marine surveyor specialising in inland waterways vessels, narrowboats, barges and small ships. Consultancy work includes grant applications, conservation maintenance planning, the specialist lifting, moving and docking of historic vessels, and technical, safety and authenticity for TV and film.
Ian Clark
Ian is a conservation engineer with 45 years experience and his own company, Ian Clark Restoration. He is a member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, an Icon accredited Conservator-Restorer and has received the Icon/Pilgrim Trust Award for Conservation.
Wyn Davies
Wyn is a naval architect who is a specialist in maritime heritage projects, most notably Cutty Sark, HMS Warrior and ss Great Britain.
Ian Dunkley
Ian is an independent maritime consultant, surveyor and trainer with over 50 years’ experience. A former Naval Reserve Commander, his extensive hands-on experience leading historic vessel projects includes Cutty Sark, HMS Cavalier, HMS Gannet, HMS Ocelot, and SS Robin.
Linda Fitzpatrick
Linda is Head Curator of the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther, our Shipshape Network Scotland Hub. She has over 20 years' experience caring for a collection including 21 historic boats, and also serves as an Accreditation Mentor for Museums Galleries Scotland.
Paul Jeffery
Paul is an archaeologist and maritime heritage crime advisor at Historic England. He leads on identifying significance, designation recommendations and management of wrecks in English Waters as well as major projects.
Eric Kentley
Eric was formerly a curator at the National Maritime Museum, in a variety of roles including Head of Ship Technology, and later became Assistant Director of the Design Museum. Since going freelance in 2001, he has specialised in interpretation projects.
Inigo Lapwood
Inigo is founding Director of Theatreship and Artship; a heritage project restoring two historic cargo ships in London’s Docklands to create a floating arts centre. A liveaboard boater, he has many years’ experience refloating and repairing historic vessels, and sits on the Canal & River Trust's London Advisory Board.
