The annual NI Science Festival celebrates the wonders of science, technology, engineering, the arts and maths through a vibrant programme of events each February across Northern Ireland. This year's festival include two talks and a special Stargazing event aboard 1914 National Historic Fleet Cruiser HMS Caroline.
From ship’s galley to family kitchen: How food defined the First World War

Step aboard HMS Caroline for a mouth-watering talk with historian and author Ian Miller. Discover how food, health, and nutrition shaped life in the Royal Navy. The talk also explores vital links with the home front, where families faced rationing. By connecting life at sea with life ashore, Ian reveals how the struggle to feed a nation shaped the daily experiences of sailors and civilians alike. Following the 45 minute talk, guests will be treated to a rare late-night self-guided tour of the historic spaces of HMS Caroline to see where the crew worked, slept and ate, finishing at the ship's original galley dating from 1914.
Powering the First World War: HMS Caroline Engine Room Talk & Tour

Step into the atmospheric Engine Room of HMS Caroline for an evening that brings science, innovation and history to life. Discover how Sir Charles Parson's revolutionary steam turbines transformed naval engineering and propelled Britain into a new technological age. Learn too about his daughter, Rachel Parson, a pioneering engineer and campaigner who broke barriers for women in science. Surrounded by the original engines that once roared into action at the Battle of Jutland, this talk offers a fascinating journey into the power, people, and progress that shaped the 20th century.

Join us for a Museums at Night event like no other! Step inside our immersive stargazing dome inside HMS Caroline's Drill Hall and enjoy engaging talks on how the Royal Navy relied on the stars to navigate the seas. Discover the history of celestial navigation while exploring HMS Caroline after hours.
Admission to the immersive dome will be every 20 minutes based on your selected timeslot. All ages are welcome!
