WEBINAR: HERITAGE CRIME AND MARITIME HERITAGE
Monday 30th June, 12- 2pm BST

Heritage Crime can cause significant harm to historic properties, maritime infrastructure and vessels. Unlike many other crimes, damage or loss cannot easily be replaced, if at all. That is why Heritage Crime Week 2025 is the ideal time to find out more about what this issue means for you and what you can do.

Hosted by National Historic Ships UK with support from the Maritime Heritage Trust, this online session will explain what Heritage Crime is, how you and local Police Heritage Crime Liaison Officers can work together to reduce its likelihood and how to identify and report it.

The webinar will be delivered by:

* PAUL JEFFERY, MCIfA

Chair of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists Heritage Crime Special Interest Group, Paul has spent over 30 years in various heritage roles, most recently leading the Listing Projects and Marine Teams at Historic England where he has helped to develop training and operational support to police forces and the Maritime & Coastguard Agency. He is an HE Heritage Crime Advisor and has taken part in a number of investigations. Paul has also been a member of the NHS-UK Council of Experts since 2021.

* MARK HARRISON, FSA

Head of Heritage Crime Strategy at Historic England, Mark is a well-known figure in the field of heritage crime prevention and investigation. He began his career in the police service, where he specialised in developing partnerships and interventions to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in both the natural and historic environments. He has since been instrumental in the development of the Heritage Crime Programme in collaboration with the National Police Chiefs' Council, Crown Prosecution Service, and a range of law enforcement and heritage organisations.

Based on awareness training developed, tailored and delivered to law enforcement staff and volunteers, heritage bodies, managers and owners over many years; this online event is not to be missed. It will help you understand the potential risks to local maritime heritage or historic vessels in your care, how to identify preventative approaches and how your local police and communities can help to secure your assets against harm. Taking a proactive approach to this problem can help safeguard your historic vessel for present and future generations to enjoy.
