Pakistan has gifted the historic lead ship PNS Tariq (formerly HMS Ambuscade) to the UK (Clyde Naval Heritage) as a goodwill gesture.  The ceremony took place at the Pakistan High Commission in London and was attended by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi and former First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff of the Royal British Navy, Admiral Lord Alan West, as guest of the Clyde Naval Heritage Charity.

The ex-PNS Tariq was decommissioned by the Pakistan Navy in August 2023.  It will be converted into a floating museum by the UK-based charity, Clyde Naval Heritage (HMS Ambuscade/PNS Tariq) SCIO, and will be put on display as a symbol of the shared naval heritage of the Royal and Pakistan navies.

Admiral Lord Alan West emphasized the close relationship between the navies and nations of Pakistan and the UK, highlighting the historic agreement centred around a ship that has served both countries over the years. He said: 'This is the beginning of this project in all aspects, now the hard work begins with the support of Naval and Clyde shipbuilding heritage support".

Clyde Naval Heritage representatives including Trustee David O'Neill, Pakistani Business leaders and former Ambuscade Captains and other dignitaries were also present to take part in this process.

The Clyde Naval Shipbuilding Heritage project is led by David O’Neill and his team of dedicated individuals who have a passion for preserving and celebrating the rich shipbuilding history of the River Clyde.  The team is comprised of experienced professionals in the field of heritage and culture, with extensive knowledge of the shipbuilding industry and its impact on society.

The project is an extension of the Save the Falls of Clyde project, a successful campaign that raised public awareness of the importance of preserving the historic Falls of Clyde ship, the last surviving iron-hulled, four-masted ship in the world.  The Save the Falls of Clyde project inspired a generation of people to take an active interest in preserving the maritime heritage of the River Clyde, and the team behind the project recognized the need for a dedicated initiative to celebrate and showcase the region’s shipbuilding history.
