Commissioned by John, William and James Smith and Alexander Souter, GLEANERS was built by Forbes of Sandhaven in 1934. In 1948 she was bought by John Sutherland and Duncan Roderick Bremner, and in 1960 by Margaret Swanson whose husband Robert was the skipper.
GLEANERS ceased fishing in September 1975 and was bought by James 'Jim' Oag of Thrumster by Wick and taken south. She was owned by David Carson and kept in Belfast whilst undergoing a complete deck replacement at Harland and Woolf. In 2004, she moved to Carrickfergus for an internal refit and new deck then operated as a live-aboard dive charter vessel between 2004-2006 out of Londonderry.
A private owner bought her in 2006 and undertook an out-of-water hull restoration and gearbox build in Ramsey, Isle of Man. In June 2007 her returned to Southampton with and subsequently sailed around the entire British coastline, returning to Southampton in early 2008 where GLEANERS has been based since. He undertook a complete internal refit and replaced the wheelhouse before selling the vessel in 2010 to become a live-aboard.
