History
This barge with the long, narrow and shallow lines of the traditional wherry, was used in the eighteenth century by the Lord Commissioners of the Admiralty when visiting ships, dockyards and for general river business. She had four oars per side, and a coach or cabin was provided for the comfort of the passengers. This was a working barge and, although adorned with carving of considerable quality, is less ornate than PRINCE FREDERICK’S BARGE.
