Built 1936 by Harland & Wolff, Woolwich for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company, BANSTEAD is a narrow boat of the Town class. She is of iron construction and has a 3 cylinder Petter diesel engine of 28hp.
She was bought by British Waterways and carried cargos of cement. Subsequently she was leased to the Birmingham & Midland Carrying Company. In 1964 she played a central role in the Ealing Comedy film 'The Bargee'. Now fully restored, she serves as a floating tearoom.
