History

Built in 1948 by Samuel Barlow Coal Carrying Company, IAN is a narrow boat of timber construction with a Lister JP2 diesel engine. She is believed to be the last wooden motor narrow boat to be built in England and her appearance is close to her original trading condition. IAN mainly carried coal on the Grand Union Canal between 1948 and 1970 for Samuel Barlow and later for Blue Line. She was subsequently sold in 1970 to a private owner and then passed on to a new owner in 1989.

In 2017 the current owenr bought her and since then she has had a cabin skin repair effected in 2018 by Malcolm Webster at the expense of original signwriting.  She was drydocked in 2019 and 2020 at Northwich.
