History

Built in 1906 by Fellows Morton & Clayton at Saltley, Birmingham, FRANCE is a narrow boat of iron construction with a diesel engine by Lister model JP2. From 1906 to 1937 she was a horse drawn carrying boat, an engine was then installed and she continued in the FMC fleet until 1951 when she was transferred to the Docks and Inland Waterways Executive. Between 1953 and 1968 she became a Thomas Clayton Tar Boat. Subsequent owners were Mungo Park and Alan Vigar. She was bought by her present owner in 2009 and will be restored to her original carrying condition.
