History

SONOMA is an international 6 metre yacht of timber carvel construction and was built in 1924 by McGruers & Co. Limited to a design by G L Watson & Co. First owned by two brothers Claud and James Allen, she was sailed and raced on the Clyde for a number of years. In 1932 she was owned by James and Willie McGruer and was converted to a cruiser and racer. It is thought she then went to Sunderland and was owned by Mr H Lambert of Sunderland Yacht Club. SONOMA has historical significance as a unique one off design by G L Watson & Co. who designed four America Cup Yachts, Royal Yachts and Presidential Yachts. She is at present undergoing restoration in Poole.
