Not a great deal of VICTORIA R's history has been confirmed although it is known that Queen Victoria used the vessel at some stage during her reign in the Manchester area. She is mentioned on the Steam Boat Association register many years ago as GLENROSA and, at that time, powered by steam.
The vessel was built in 1880 to unusual construction methods involving hot dipped iron/steel plates and frames providing a very light construction. Approximately 75% of the hull plates are original although she is currently undergoing hull plate replacement and the re-building of topsides and interior. The replacement of her propulsion system also being undertaken to either continue with steam propulsion, or change to electric.
The vessel is complete but is undergoing hull plate replacement and re-building of topsides and interior. Replacement of propulsion system also being undertaken once decision has been made between steam or electric.
