History
Built in 1958 by John Watt of Banff for T Hutchison of Whalsay, COMRADES is a fishing vessel registered as LK325 and registered in the Shetland Isles.
A private owner bought her in 1992, and she continued to operate as a fishing trawler in Shetland until 2017. In September 2018 she passed into new private ownership and was berthed in Macduff at the same shipyard she was built, where she underwent a refit.
From 2019 until 2023 she was based In Latvia and the Netherlands. A complete restoration and conversion of COMRADES was done and converted into a small expedition vessel focusing on Arctic waters. She was completely overhauled and adapted inside and out, above and below deck.
In 2023, COMRADES achieved Austrian registration as a seagoing vessel for worldwide voyages. There are three double cabins, a monkey lounge, a wood-burning stove berth, and additional berths are on hand for snowboarders/skiers whilst at anchor. For comfortable accommodations, guests can use the sauna, hot tub, two saloons, wood-burning stove, 10kW heater, galley, ample deck space, storage for snowboards and skis, a drying area, a washroom, fresh water, and a Pioneer Landing Craft.
In 2024 her first Arctic Small Expedition took place in Northern Norway.
