WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

This course, led by sailor, navigation and seamanship guru Tom Cunliffe, shows how the time-honoured systems of position fixing, course shaping and tidal effects can be successfully and joyfully managed without any electronics at all.

The outcomes are students who put out onto the trackless sea knowing where they are at all times, and confident of how to proceed from there to their destination using instruments tested over hundreds of years. At a more mundane level, the course also leaves sailors knowing that if their electronic screens go blank, they have the skills to bring the ship to a safe haven.
