WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

A five-day melting pot of traditional and modern techniques. Practical activities include tool sharpening, timber preparation, scarfing, gluing, removal and refitting of planks, riveting and steam bending. Time permitting you will refit internal components (e.g. thwarts, risers and knees).

Gain practical experience in:

  • Selecting the correct tools for different jobs. Tool sharpening, theory and practice.
  • Basic boat building joints. Including different plank scarfs – demonstration & practical.
  • Shaping and fitting planks.
  • Fastening and adhesives, steaming and copper riveting.
  • Knees, floors & bulkheads.
  • Caulking, Painting & finishing.

There may an opportunity to bring your own boat for the group to work on, please get in touch for details. There will be an additional charge for any materials used on your own boat.

After the first day all courses run to the normal workshop times of: 0830 to 1730

  • Tea breaks at 1030 and 1530
  • Lunch 1300 to 1400
  • 1530 on the last day
