Loch Lomond Steamship Company is embarking on an exciting phase of the Maid of the Loch’s restoration when her volunteers will aim to prepare the ship for relaunch next year and return to her berth at the pier in Balloch – but they need help from anyone who wants to see this ship looking good again - a Maid Makeover.
Over the next few months old paint will be removed, back to bare metal and then she will be coated in the beautiful light colour for which she was renowned. The funnel has already been returned to the buff colour and she will be the beauty once again that was loved by the many people who remember her when she sailed on Loch Lomond or was berthed at the pier.
Starting from just £15 they need the public to help by sponsoring materials – 300 bags of blasting abrasive and 350 litres of paint are required.
Currently the paddles are being reinstalled with the starboard paddle virtually complete and work now underway on the port side.
The entire steel hull under the boiler room has now been renewed and they are now working to complete other smaller areas of hull deterioration.
