Pilgrim of Brixham announce 2024 Sailing Programme

Pilgrim Heritage Sailing Foundation, owners of the 1895 Brixham trawler Pilgrim, have unveiled their sailing programme for 2024.

Starting in March 2024, the sailing programme includes day trips, sunset cruises, weekends, and longer holidays, residential experiences and chances to become part of the crew.

Events you can attend and enjoy from Pilgrim include the English Riviera Air Show, Falmouth Classics and Shanty Festival, Brest and Douarnenez Maritime Festival, and Dartmouth Regatta.

Pilgrim was built at the yard of J.W. & A. Upham in Brixham in 1895 and is the oldest surviving sailing trawler that was built and rigged in the port.  She was one of several hundred Victorian sailing trawlers that worked out of Brixham in the late 19th century.  The history of Pilgrim is a fascinating story of endurance and survival that sees her still sailing in the traditional manner and out of her home port, more than 125 years after her construction.  She is listed on the prestigious National Historic Fleet, for vessels of pre-eminent national or regional significance.

Since extensive conservation was completed in 2012/3 Pilgrim has been sailing with guests in an around the South West coast, Isles of Scilly, Channel Islands and Brittany.  Open to the public throughout the summer months for free tours, the Foundation is run wholly by volunteers with income used to sustain operations and sound maintenance of the vessel.  Pilgrim promotes the fishing and boat building heritage of Brixham and traditional sailing skills. Guests are encouraged, taught and supervised in sailing her "hands on".
