History

URE is a Welded all-steel butty boat with fibreglass "blue-top" covers over the cargo hold. The vessel was built by EC Jones & Son (Brentford) Ltd in 1960 for British Transport Waterways, SE Division Carrying Fleet. In 1962, she was transferred to British Waterways Board. In 1965, she was sold to the Thames Conservancy maintenance, Sunbury Section, where it was primarily used as a mud hopper.

In 1995, URE was sold to private ownership and restored as an unconverted carrying boat with an extended cabin. A "pod" was built to provide additional accommodation in the hold but this is entirely unconnected to the original boat and can be fully lifted out. As of 2025, she is based at Harefield Marina and paired with Severner Willow. Her current owners have no plans to alter the vessel any futher, as URE is one of the last few River Class butty boats that has not been converted.
