History

ELKSTONE is one of 32 Clovelly-class fleet tenders and was built in 1970 by J.W. Cook of Wivenhoe, Essex, for the Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service.

ELKSTONE is curently moored at Milford Marina in Pembrokeshire and is currently used as houserboat. Her current owners bought her in 2021 from J Caruth and P Syred. Believed to have been used as a diving boat since coming out of service.

She has a working Lister Blackstone 4 cylinder engine, a Perkins 6 cylinder generator and has been superbly maintained. With the advice of a naval architect from Mainstay, in Pembroke Dock, she has undergone structural changes such as entrances cut through from the bosun's hold to No. 1 hold, to No. 2 hold and a doorway through from the engine room, through the (now emptied) ballast tanks to the steering flat. Also there have been a number of extra, reclaimed portholes fitted.
