Boatbuilder

With the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are able to offer this exciting fixed term (until 30th Aug 2030) opportunity as part of the Delivery Phase of our project “Manx Beauty – Cellardyke and Beyond”

Boat Builder, Manx Beauty Project (fixed contract)

The Cellardyke Trust

Location: – Anstruther, East Neuk of Fife

£40,000 – Full time

The Manx Beauty is an historic fishing vessel, built of wood in Cellardyke in 1937, and subsequently owned and operated from various ports across the British Isles.  Now in a poor state of repair, our project is to improve lives and community through the rebuilding of the Manx Beauty.  The core priority of our project is to deliver training opportunities for young people and volunteers to engage in practical boat rebuilding, restoration and recycling. In addition to students from our partner high school, Waid Academy, in Anstruther, the target volunteers are those isolated through social, economic or health issues. We will create a supportive environment for certificated training opportunities. There will also be additional openings for volunteers to engage in related arts and cultural heritage projects.

In July 2026 we were delighted to be awarded £1.2m funding by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver our project.

We require a Boatbuilder to join our team, working closely with the Project Co Ordinator, Volunteer Development and Support worker and teaching staff and students at the local high school the Waid Academy.

We are seeking a highly organised, self-motivated individual with a strong interest in heritage, community and education, to rebuild the Manx Beauty and deliver education courses in partnership with the school.

The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of practical wooden boat building, possessing the knowledge and skill to rebuild the Manx Beauty whilst working with a team of volunteers and managing an apprentice. We are seeking an individual with excellent people and communication skills, preferably with experience of educating/ training others. An inclusive approach with a drive to facilitate access for all to engage with heritage and the ability to motivate and inspire others to do likewise is a key value.
