The owners of the 1906 saloon launch Verity are seeking a Captain on an ad hoc basis.

Commissioned by the famous opera singer Dame Nellie Melba from James Taylor of Chertsey, Verity's rare Beaver stern was designed to give greater waterline length and thus a higher speed for a lesser wash, solid stability, and an easy turning ability.  She is built of mahogany on oak frames, with a teak superstructure, teak and mahogany decks, and a good interior décor.  Verity has large and comfortable forward bow seating, a cosy after cockpit and her dining saloon is large enough to dine up to 10 people with a separate toilet and galley.

Verity will be based on the Grand Union Canal, moored opposite the wharf building at Ladbroke Grove, London W10 5QH.

The owners are offering bespoke cruise packages to the public, 10 people maximum. This will likely be 3-4 hours work at a time, and there will be one other staff member – a waiter.

Your duties will be to prepare the boat, drive the boat a little way down the canal, probably to Little Venice, drive her back, tidy (with the help of the waiter) and cover her up.  You will also be responsible for reporting any issues, topping up water and dealing with waste.

The owners will cover all licences and insurances for the boat.

The work will be ad hoc to start with as they – hopefully – establish the business.

Start date: July 2025
