Join the team preserving one of the UK's most iconic historic ships. 

The Golden Hinde is seeking an experienced and practical Head Shipwright & Conservation Manager to lead the day-to-day maintenance and ongoing refit of this unique reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake's famous vessel. 

This varied role combines traditional craftsmanship, conservation, project management and leadership, overseeing maintenance, restoration and contractor management while helping safeguard the ship's long-term future. 

You'll play a key role in ensuring the vessel remains safe, operational and historically authentic as part of an exciting multi-million-pound refit programme. 

We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in traditional shipbuilding, heritage conservation, construction, boatbuilding, timber engineering, or related practical disciplines. The exact scope of the role will reflect the successful candidate's experience and expertise.

Essential:

- Practical experience in maintenance, restoration, construction, marine engineering, conservation or a related field.
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
- Experience managing contractors or specialist trades.
- Good understanding of health and safety.
- Excellent practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
- Right to work in the UK.

Desirable:

- Experience in traditional shipbuilding, timber conservation or heritage restoration.
- Experience in maritime, museum or historic environments.
- Project management or recognised trade qualifications.
- Experience leading apprentices, volunteers or small teams.
- An interest in maritime history, traditional craftsmanship and heritage conservation.
