Project Coordinator for Britannia: Making Waves
Britannia Sailing Trust is looking for a Project Coordinator who will be crucial to the delivery and management of this Maritime Heritage Project, ‘Britannia: Making Waves’.
You’ll be responsible for tracking the lifecycle of this project from start to completion. It’s an exciting and varied job which could involve anything from working with volunteers to arranging events and providing services to the disadvantaged. Working closely with the team and management, you will ensure that everyone on the team is on track to complete their tasks on time and on budget.

16 hours a week – 0.4 full time equivalent. Free lance self-employed person required for a 2-year contract, reviewed after 12 months. You would be providing information and data collection for monthly reporting to the Board of Trustees of Britannia Sailing Trust and be under the guidance of and managed by experienced Board members.
Salary £25,000 pa pro rata. Travel expenses are paid at 45 pence per mile whilst undertaking duties on behalf of the Trust.
We are a very small team and passionate about our aims – staffed mostly by volunteers, we are working to promote maritime heritage but with people in mind.
Your work will be centred on the historic vessel Britannia, berthed in Exeter Heritage Harbour and this project is to complete her restoration and make her ready to take to the seas again, transitioning from a static restoration project to a functioning seafaring and passenger carrying traditional sailing vessel. Duties will include:
- Creation and running community events in tandem with project team
- Liaison with community partners furthering our goals for community education
- Working with team members – hands on and behind the scenes to ensure timescales are upheld in accordance with the Project Plan
- Working with the Volunteer Supervisor to ensure that our volunteer team have a good experience; collecting regular feedback, etc.
- Keeping records and collecting data on activities that are being delivered enabling high quality evaluation
- Produce a simple monthly project report for the Project Team and the board of Trustees
Essential Skills:
- Excellent attention to detail
- Education to GCSE and A level
- Exemplary time management skills and ability to work on own initiative as well as working within a team.
- Ability to communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Empathy, Respectful and non-judgemental attitude – some of our team members may be vulnerable
- Ability to undertake a varied workload and to keep to deadlines
- Creative and imaginative
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Valid driving licence
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Experience in youth work, community or business
- A proven track record of raising significant funds from charitable trusts or foundations.
- A knowledge of or some experience in Maritime Heritage
- An understanding of social values and a commitment to the ethos and
values of Britannia sailing trust - Some sailing experience at any level – dinghy to Tall ships – desirable, but not essential.

Some of this work can be done from home and a laptop and connection to wifi is essential, but we would expect some time to be spent every week with the restoration team and volunteers at Exeter Quay.
