National Historic Ships UK Projects Officer

£17,150 Per Annum • Permanent • Part Time

National Historic Ships UK is seeking a Projects Officer to join our small & friendly team in Greenwich for 3 days per week.

About us

National Historic Ships UK is an independent advisory body based at Royal Museums Greenwich under the terms of a service level agreement and operates to a specific remit set down at the time of its establishment in 2006 by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport. Its five-year Forward Plan focusses on the long-term sustainability of the historic vessel sector.

The Role

National Historic Ships UK is the official voice for historic vessels in the UK. It acts as an advisory body and maintains a set of databases recording the UK's historic and replica craft, including the National Register of Historic Vessels. It also manages the Shipshape Network which connects over 90 external projects and promotes the regeneration of traditional maritime skills and infrastructure.

The Projects Officer will support members of the team with daily project and outreach work, acting as a first point of contact and contributing to the smooth running of the organisation. Key responsibilities include researching information on vessels on the National Registers in order to update relevant databases, and administering the National Historic Ships UK distance learning programme. The Projects Officer will also work on the Shipshape Network hubs and projects, producing related material for the web-pages, newsletter and social media, and assisting with the organisation of events and activities to develop the Network.

The successful candidate will need demonstrable administrative skills, a high level of computer literacy, and excellent teamworking and organisational skills. The ability to meet tight deadlines co-operatively is also essential to this role; an interest in maritime heritage, historic vessels and conservation is desirable.

This is a part-time, permanent role, in Band 6 - Management and Competent Specialists. Core hours of work will be 21 per week over Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, although hours can be arranged flexibly to suit the needs of the candidate and the Museum.

Please note that there will be a 4-week probationary period for this role.
