History

IMAGE was built by a master carpenter at Hatton, Warwickshire, in the early 1960s as an icebreaker for for British Waterways. She had a number of private owners after being sold out of service before being bought by her current owners in 1996. In that year minor repairs were carried out to her superstructure and she was repainted. In 1997 6 hull planks were removed, replaced and recorked.

In 1998 her gas locker was refitted to the stern, and her rear side superstructure panel was replaced. She was repainted and returned to the water. In 1999 a second set of wood hull planks were replaced, and in May steel cladding was installed over the entire wooden hull. the whole of the interior was stripped out to allow access to the hull formers. In 2000 vertical steel strips were bolted to teh inner formers, and steel planks cut to the same size as the wooden hull planks. the 10mm gap was filled with insulation, and work finally completed in October 2001.

In 2006/07 the stern deck was rebuilt, the wooden deck removed and replaced with steel. The engine was removed to refurbish the engine compartment. Two steel fuel tanks were replaced with a single central one. Rotten wood on the roof was replaced and painted. In 2014 all superstructure paint work was stripped to wood and repairs made where necessary. A fibre glass roof was installed with epoxy resin, and the entire vessel repainted. A canvas cover was made and installed for the superstructure. Changes were completed by 2018.
