History

WHITLEY was built in 1948 at Harkers Ship Yard Knottingley for Aire & Calder Navigation Company. Origionally Dumb. It was one of four same size vessels commisioned and built by Harkers of Knottingley around the same time for A&CNC, named, Stanley, Kellingley, Haddlesley and Whitley which are all villages with names ending "ley" on the banks of the Aire & Calder Navigation. Later was in the ownership of British Waterways and was marinised and fitted with a 3 cylinder Lister Engine. The Boat was used by their Joiners who carried out repairs and fitted Lock Gates on the Aire and Calder Navigation. There is photographic evidence in various books with WHITLEY loaded up with Lock Gates and Timber in various locations on the Aire & Calder Navigation.

In 2010 the vessel was sold and became in private ownership .The Engine and Gearbox was replaced in 2003 with a Perkins 4236 and PRM 500 D3 Gearbox. Vessel remains in private ownership.
