History

ROSE was built in 1910 by W J Yarwood & Sons Ltd of Northwich for Collinson’s Waterboat Company of Hull. She was a Hull Water Boat, used to supply coastal steamers with fresh water whilst in dock out of Hull and other Yorkshire ports. She was one of three such vessels owned by Collinson’s, believed to be steam powered. Her size was regarded as optimum for carrying the amount of water required by these coastal steamers and be easily positioned in docks.

ROSE was last known to be working in 1956. In the 1970s, she was converted to leisure use with steelwork put over the hold and a Perkins d3.152 diesel engine being fitted, which is still in place. Since then, she has cruised wide canals and rivers across northern England and is known to have crossed the Irish Sea. As of 2025, she is moored at Sawley, Derbyshire.
