History

FINESSE was built by William Osborne of Littlehampton, West Sussex, in 1968. She is a Martin type boat with a design speed of 22 knots, and was Lloyd’s registered from commissioning. She is planked with double diagonal on oak frames based on a planing hull shape with a semi pointed stern.

FINESSE was built for Mr Cobham of Poole, Dorset. Not much is known about her history, other than that she was used by the Sea Scouts in Cowes, Isle of Wight, as a training vessel at some point, and that she appeared at the Traditional Boat Festival at Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

She spent around 20 years under cover at the Constables Boatyard in Hampton, Greater London, before being acquired by her current owners. They have updated the electrical, plumbing, hot water system and all the instrumentation to ensure safety on board, but she has most of the original interior and exterior as built. As of 2025, she is based at Birdham Marina in Chichester, West Sussex.
