Steam Tug Kerne is operated by the Steam Tug Kerne Preservation Society, which is constituted as a 'Not For Profit' company limited by guarantee and registered as a charity.

The objects of the charity are "To promote, for the benefit of the public, the preservation and maintenance of the historic steam tug Kerne. To advance the education of the public in the science, technology and use of steam power in general and its application to marine in particular."

1913 coal fired steam tug. Kerne was the last coal fired steamer to work commercially on the River Mersey. H.M.Tug Terrier 1913 -1948.
