History

This vessel was built for the Gravesend Towage Company. Between 1990 and 1993, she operated from Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre, berthing submarines and warships.

In 1994, she became involved with H.M. Customs in connection with drug running.

GENERAL IV was one of the last Thames tugs to retain the early Polar direct reversing engines. She was sold to a new owner in 2006 who planned to re-engine her, but this proved too big a job.  She was destined to be used as scrap (2007) but instead has been left to rust.  The hull can still be seen in Bowling Harbour, West Dunbartonshire.

Although this vessel has been disposed, we are lacking information in order to update her record. If you have any past information, please contact us.
