History
LOWENA is the fourth Good Hope ketch built to a Maurice Griffiths design by Purbrook Rossiter, Christchurch, Hampshire for the Rev. C. Curry. Originally named CINNAMON LADY, she was built of iroko and pitch pine. The design was modified in build, lengthening the hull by approximately 30” by Maurice Griffiths.
It was then sold to Mr. S. Wiles and later to M. and P. Miller of Feock, Truro in 1993. CINNAMON LADY was then based in Falmouth and was well maintained. In 2008, the boat was purchased by P. Gregson of Wooden Ships yacht brokers, Dartmouth. She was subsequently sold to P. Carrol & D. Cullwick in Autumn 2019 and kept at Dartmouth.
The boat has been changed very little since her build, the forward heads extended and fixed stern davits removed. The boat was re-engined in 2005.
Under new ownership as of 2025, her name has been changed to LOWENA, and her home port to Truro, Cornwall. The new owner intends to renovate, maintain and and cruise Lowena around the British coast and more widely.
