History

GIRL PENNY was built in 1972 by Stanley Oliver of Porthleven, Cornwall, as a commercial fishing boat to a design by Dennis Swire. She was one of three built to this design, the others being CELTIC LASS and KIM BILL. She was built for B R Tobbs and was originally known as HEATHER YVONNE, until 1976. She is constructed of Iroko timber on Oak.

She spent her working life fishing at Porthleven or Newlyn, and on occasion going into Falmouth. She worked with crab and Lobster pots, with nets and, on occasion, hand lines for mackerel.

She is currently based in St Mawes, Cornwall, and is fitted with a Ford 4-cylinder 88hp Mermaid Melody engine.
